{"id":3751,"date":"2013-05-03T11:31:56","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T15:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/?p=3751"},"modified":"2013-05-03T11:31:56","modified_gmt":"2013-05-03T15:31:56","slug":"dyslexia-typeface","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/03\/dyslexia-typeface.html","title":{"rendered":"Dyslexia Typeface"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I stumbled upon this typeface nearly eight months ago, and thought that I had written about it, but after recommending it for the 3rd or 4th time, I realized that I had failed to actually create the post.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"OpenDyslexic website\" href=\"http:\/\/opendyslexic.org\/\">OpenDyslexic<\/a><\/strong> is a typeface that is specifically designed to be more usable for readers with, you guessed it, dyslexia.\u00a0 The characters are weighted (the lines are made thicker) on the lower portion of the letter, <a href=\"http:\/\/opendyslexic.org\/about\/\">reducing the tendency<\/a> by the dyslectic reader to mentally rotate the letter.<\/p>\n<p>OpenDyslexic is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiostudio.nl\/en\/information\/?lang=project-dyslexie\">not the first<\/a> font designed this way, but it is the first open source, free typeface developed developed for dyslexia.\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t start out this way, and the story of how the murky legal landscape surrounding fonts and typefaces <a title=\"First Free Digital Font Optimized for Dyslexics Arrives\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailytech.com\/First+Free+Digital+Font+Optimized+for+Dyslexics+Arrives\/article27801.htm\">makes for an interesting read<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a sample of the typeface:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/OpenDyslexic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3752\" alt=\"OpenDyslexic\" src=\"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/OpenDyslexic-300x171.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/OpenDyslexic-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/OpenDyslexic.jpg 698w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I stumbled upon this typeface nearly eight months ago, and thought that I had written about it, but after recommending it for the 3rd or 4th time, I realized that I had failed to actually create the post.
