{"id":3382,"date":"2010-04-14T13:56:21","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T17:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/?p=3382"},"modified":"2010-04-14T13:56:21","modified_gmt":"2010-04-14T17:56:21","slug":"personality-spectrum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/14\/personality-spectrum.html","title":{"rendered":"Personality Spectrum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is an interesting &#8220;personality type&#8221; post on <a href=\"http:\/\/dougal.gunters.org\/\">Dougal Campbell&#8217;s Geek Ramblings<\/a> titled <a href=\"http:\/\/dougal.gunters.org\/blog\/2010\/04\/14\/open-source-community-personality-spectrum\"><strong>Open Source Personality Spectrum<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In and of itself, it is interesting and basically true.\u00a0 Giving it some thought, I suspect that this range of personality traits can be used to identify people&#8217;s attitude towards not only software, but towards websites, services, organizations, projects, and even people.<\/p>\n<p>We should strive to fit into either of the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Enthusiast<\/strong> &#8211; &#8220;Likes the application, and is generally positive about it. Will  acknowledge that it has some faults, but feels that they are minor  enough to ignore, or can be worked around.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stoic<\/strong> &#8211; &#8220;Uses the application, but views it as a commodity. If something comes  along that looks significantly better in some way, he\u2019ll switch.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most of the other categories are missing the point:\u00a0 software project, and all the other foci I mentioned, will be at their best when the feedback they receive is accurate.\u00a0 To be unrealistically positive about something or someone is just as harmful as being unrealistically negative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is an interesting &#8220;personality type&#8221; post on Dougal Campbell&#8217;s Geek Ramblings titled Open Source Personality Spectrum.
