{"id":2828,"date":"2009-03-16T13:09:52","date_gmt":"2009-03-16T17:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/?p=2828"},"modified":"2009-03-16T13:09:52","modified_gmt":"2009-03-16T17:09:52","slug":"print-vs-electronic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/16\/print-vs-electronic.html","title":{"rendered":"Print vs. Electronic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/libshare.library.gatech.edu\/clearspace\/docs\/DOC-2724\"><strong>Notes from last month&#8217;s OLE (Open Library Environment) Regional Workshop<\/strong><\/a> are on <a href=\"https:\/\/libshare.library.gatech.edu\/clearspace\/index.jspa\">LibShare<\/a>, and they are interesting to scan through, especially the comments.<\/p>\n<p>I found this through the <a href=\"http:\/\/dltj.org\/article\/physical-versus-electronic\/\">Disruptive Library Technology Jester blog<\/a>, and looked into it because of two quotes he included with his post:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>With print items, we&#8217;re trying to give people access; with electronic trying to keep them out.<\/li>\n<li>Isn&#8217;t it interesting that users from other libraries have borrowed print books delivered to them, but must travel to another library to get access to their electronic items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, I will add this interesting tidbit from the same set of responses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It used to be about selecting high quality materials, but now have to teach evaluation of available materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I think that sums up much of the transition we face in the library world &#8211; how to filter useful and usable information in a way that makes it useful and usable for our patrons (aren&#8217;t you glad I didn&#8217;t say &#8220;users&#8221;).\u00a0 We are drinking from the fire hydrant, and the pressure is increasing!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Notes from last month&#8217;s OLE (Open Library Environment) Regional Workshop are on LibShare, and they are interesting to scan through, especially the comments.
