{"id":2704,"date":"2009-02-01T10:15:55","date_gmt":"2009-02-01T15:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/?p=2704"},"modified":"2009-02-01T10:15:55","modified_gmt":"2009-02-01T15:15:55","slug":"may-you-live-in-interesting-financial-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/01\/may-you-live-in-interesting-financial-times.html","title":{"rendered":"May You Live in Interesting Financial Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have been concerned about the possible effects of the global financial crisis on libraries, you aren&#8217;t alone.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.yale.edu\/consortia\/\">International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC)<\/a> has issued a statement that is not only short, succinct, and dire, but also proposes some solutions that would not only aid libraries and consortia, but the content providers from whom they purchase.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.yale.edu\/consortia\/icolc-econcrisis-0109.htm\"><strong>ICOLC Economic Statement.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a very powerful and constructive statement which is meant to initiate some significant changes in the way resources are offered, selected, and purchased.\u00a0 My compliments to those who crafted the statement; it is a good, proactive document.\u00a0 Adopting its suggestions will benefit everyone.\u00a0 From the statements:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">While there may be practical limits to this principle, publishers, authors, scholars, and libraries will be best served by those solutions that retain as much access to as much content as possible.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note that there are many, many adopters of this statement, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carli.illinois.edu\/\">CARLI<\/a> in Illinois, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infohio.org\/\">INFOhio<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohiolink.edu\/\">OHIOLink<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohionet.org\/\">OhioNet<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oplin.lib.oh.us\/\">OPLIN<\/a>, all in Ohio.\u00a0 Check the list at the bottom of the statement to see if your consortial partners have adopted it.<\/p>\n<p><em>found via the <a href=\"http:\/\/dltj.org\/article\/icolc-economic-crisis-statement\/\">Disruptive Library Technology Jester<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have been concerned about the possible effects of the global financial crisis on libraries, you aren&#8217;t alone.\u00a0 The International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC) has issued a statement that is not only short, succinct, and dire, but also &hellip;
