{"id":2600,"date":"2008-12-15T13:52:22","date_gmt":"2008-12-15T17:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/?p=2600"},"modified":"2008-12-16T13:20:43","modified_gmt":"2008-12-16T17:20:43","slug":"ohio-rfps-for-open-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2008\/12\/15\/ohio-rfps-for-open-source.html","title":{"rendered":"Ohio RFPs for Open Source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.ohio.gov\/\">State Library of Ohio<\/a> has just released a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.ohio.gov\/swrs\/rfp\/rfp12.12.pdf\">Request For Proposal for an Open Source Statewide Resource Sharing System<\/a><\/strong> (Pdf).<\/p>\n<p>Their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.ohio.gov\/swrs\/rfp\/\">summary page<\/a> (which will soon contain an F.A.Q.) states that<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The desired product would provide a seamless resource sharing solution, developed and released under an open source framework, in an environment of disparate integrated library systems (ILSs).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Looking briefly through the document, it looks to me as if the closest software in the library world is the <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Open-ILS<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/evergreen-ils.org\/\">Evergreen<\/a> project, which is the platform for <a href=\"http:\/\/gapines.org\/opac\/en-US\/skin\/default\/xml\/index.xml\">Georgia Library Pines<\/a> system.\u00a0 The largest challenge might be the system&#8217;s need to communicate with a wide variety of existing ILS platforms.<\/p>\n<p>The timeline is ambitious:\u00a0 Proposals are due by the end of January; a vendor will be selected and contracts signed by mid-March, a test system will be in place by September, and the system as a whole will go live in February 2010.\u00a0 Wow.<\/p>\n<p>Assuming that the vendor selection process goes well (<a href=\"http:\/\/esilibrary.com\/esi\/\">Equinox<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/liblime.com\/\">LibLime<\/a>, are you ready?), this will be a very exciting time to be involved with Ohio libraries!\u00a0 I am psyched!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The State Library of Ohio has just released a Request For Proposal for an Open Source Statewide Resource Sharing System (Pdf).
