{"id":2489,"date":"2008-09-22T21:54:21","date_gmt":"2008-09-23T01:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/?p=2489"},"modified":"2008-09-22T22:17:40","modified_gmt":"2008-09-23T02:17:40","slug":"embeddable-google-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2008\/09\/22\/embeddable-google-books.html","title":{"rendered":"Embeddable Google Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/googlesystem.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/embeddable-google-books.html\">Google Books can now be embedded into a web page<\/a> in a similar way that a YouTube video is able to be embedded.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the &#8220;nifty cool&#8221; aspect of this, I can see one element of this that should make anyone involved with library web pages interested: \u00a0 what a wonderous add-on to an OPAC!\u00a0 No longer would we be limited to a link to the book in Google, but our users can potentially browse through a book <strong>during<\/strong> their search!\u00a0 Examples <a href=\"http:\/\/melvyl-test.cdlib.org:8164\/googlebooks.html\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.lib.utexas.edu\/record=b1742456\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/apis\/books\/docs\/viewer\/developers_guide.html\">Embedded Viewer API Developers Guide<\/a>, identifiers for the books can be ISBN, OCLC, LCCN, and Book Search Volume numbers, or the Google Book Search URL for one-off uses.<\/p>\n<p>Here is an example for a particular item being presented in WordPress.
