{"id":1887,"date":"2006-10-12T23:57:09","date_gmt":"2006-10-13T04:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.librarysupportstaff.org\/?p=132"},"modified":"2006-10-12T23:57:09","modified_gmt":"2006-10-13T04:57:09","slug":"academic-database-assessment-tool-adat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/12\/academic-database-assessment-tool-adat.html","title":{"rendered":"Academic Database Assessment Tool (ADAT)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jisc.ac.uk\/\">Joint Information Systems Committee<\/a>, an organization based in England, has launched a tool to help libraries and researchers compare and contrast different online databases.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrews-consultancy.com\/jisc_database_assessment\/\">Academic Database Assessment Tool (ADAT)<\/a> lets you quickly see the similarities and differences among different databases (at least a couple of them are British, so they may not be as useful comparisons for us across the Atlantic), as well as between different platforms (think EbscoHost, ProQuest, FirstSearch, among others).<\/p>\n<p>There is a basic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrews-consultancy.com\/jisc_database_assessment\/docs\/User_Guide.pdf\">User Guide<\/a> available, as well as an accompanying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrews-consultancy.com\/jisc_database_assessment\/docs\/Bibliographic_and_Citation_Databases.pdf\">report<\/a> that details the methodology.<\/p>\n<p>The software is fast, the screen output is clean and well organized, and the site has a <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc-sa\/2.0\/uk\/\">Creative Commons British Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike<\/a> license.\u00a0 This could change the way you choose your databases!<\/p>\n<p>from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.resourceshelf.com\/2006\/10\/13\/jisc-launches-abstracts-database-benchmark-service\/\">ResourceShelf<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Joint Information Systems Committee, an organization based in England, has launched a tool to help libraries and researchers compare and contrast different online databases.
