{"id":1829,"date":"2006-09-08T21:48:57","date_gmt":"2006-09-09T02:48:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.librarysupportstaff.org\/?p=74"},"modified":"2006-09-08T21:48:57","modified_gmt":"2006-09-09T02:48:57","slug":"oclc-shutting-down-redlightgreen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.libology.com\/blog\/2006\/09\/08\/oclc-shutting-down-redlightgreen.html","title":{"rendered":"OCLC shutting down RedLightGreen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.resourceshelf.com\/2006\/09\/09\/redlightgreen-to-go-offline-at-the-end-of-november\/\">ResourceShelf<\/a>, the incredible library search site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redlightgreen.com\/\">RedLightGreen<\/a> is due to be shut down at the end of November.<\/p>\n<p>This has been expected since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oclc.org\/\">OCLC<\/a> absorbed RLG a few months ago, and now with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldcat.org\/\">WorldCat.org<\/a> going live, there are two sites duplicating each others work within the OCLC stable.\u00a0 It was always intended that RLG&#8217;s functionality would be brought into WorldCat, but I wonder how things would be different if there were two separate broad catalogs operating on the web.<\/p>\n<p>The right type of competition can bring the best results, sometimes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to ResourceShelf, the incredible library search site RedLightGreen is due to be shut down at the end of November.
